The Carolina Youth Action Project (CYAP) is looking for new members for our multidisciplinary Board of Directors! We urge folks who are excited to support the longevity of our organization and the health and wellbeing of our staff to apply.



CYAP’s Board of Directors serves as a holistic and sustainability-focused team tasked with supporting Core Team members’ wellness, personal transformation, and organizational leadership. The Board encourages Core Team members to tap into their power, engage in their own healing processes, and grow within their individual roles. This term, we are seeking to welcome individuals with organizing capacity and curiosity in communications, strategic planning, and fundraising. We also welcome individuals with healing and wellness-based skills.

Our team is hoping to develop a Board of Directors comprised of healers, youth workers, practitioners, organizers, care workers, artists, and dreamers who have skills, insight, and/or experience in the following areas: 

  • Accounting

  • Ancestor Work

  • Any/All Healing & Self-Work Modalities

  • Budget planning

  • Communications Strategy

  • Community Care

  • Developing Individual Wellness Plans

  • Emotional Freedom Techniques 

  • Event Planning

  • Grassroots Fundraising

This year, more than ever, CYAP would like to invite folks who have interest in supporting us as we restructure our programming and recommit to our Core Values and Mission! CYAP has changed so much over the years and we are spending ample time this year making sure that our values and programming match our capacity, wisdom, and praxis. We aim to embrace varied perspectives from which our Board can provide focused support to our staff while also protecting their individual capacity during this period of change.

All Board members commit to serving on the Board of Directors for a minimum of one two-year term. This term will begin in mid 2023 and end in mid 2025. In an effort to continue to prioritize safety, this position is able to be entirely virtual throughout 2023.

Board Member Responsibilities

CYAP strives to practice non-hierarchical decision making structures. Because of this, our Board can collaborate with and support the Core Team in flexible ways. Aside from sharing general Board duties, some members will serve closely as personal wellness collaborators for our Core Team, and some members may also take on closer coaching roles in fundraising and administrative strategy. 

We acknowledge that our community has many talents, and duties will be shared in an equitable way as deemed fit by the full Board.

Board-wide duties and agreements include:

  • Complete an organizational wellness assessment 

  • Build caring, compassionate, authentic, supportive, and anti-oppressive relationships with Core Team members and fellow Board members.

  • Participate in and facilitate quarterly board planning meetings 

  • Read & respond to email communication within one week

  • Establish a personal financial commitment to CYAP on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis

  • Review and approve CYAP’s annual budget

  • Collaborate with future youth steering groups or committees to guide CYAP’s dedication to its mission

Individual or group tasks that may be chosen include:

Strategic and Administrative 

  • Review & Sign off on Tax Documentation

  • Update CYAP’s organizational by-laws 

  • Support fundraising efforts and event planning

  • Advise budget planning, financial planning and taxes

  • Strengthen strategic planning and values alignment assessment

  • Update best practices in legal matters/protections during our changing political climate

  • With Core Team, establish a youth steering group/committee and its relationship with the Board

  • Establish best practices for CYAP to navigate mutual aid and organizing work as a nonprofit

Wellness Collaboration

  • Coordinate & facilitate monthly personal wellness collaboration sessions

  • Attend and facilitate quarterly wellness collaborator check-in meetings

  • Attend Reflection, Assessment, & Review (RAR) sessions for your specific core team member

  • Coordinate rest & recovery activities 

  • Coordinate annual CYAP wellness retreat 

  • Compile & distribute resources for rest, wellness, & personal transformation 

  • Connect core team members with relevant resources 

  • Facilitate or support core team mediations and accountability sessions
