Rock Camp

This summer's camp will be held July 15th to July 19th at Palmetto Scholars Academy in North Charleston.

applications are due may 30!

Rock Camp is a week-long leadership development initiative that lives at the intersection of art and political education. Our summer camp is open to any girls, trans youth, and gender nonconforming youth ages 9-18 across the state of South Carolina. Campers learn how to play guitar, bass, drums, or the keyboard, write an original song with their band, and perform in front of friends, family, and community members at our camp showcase. Throughout the week, campers also participate in workshops focusing on a variety of issues including: gender and sexuality, anti-racism, self-defense, body image, media literacy, embroidery, screen printing, poetry, self-care, and more. Our goal is for camp to be a place where all of our campers can bring their whole selves and contribute their own unique talents and experiences. We want all of our campers to celebrate themselves and have a meaningful and inspirational week at camp!

Full tuition for camp is $350, however we use a sliding scale system to make our program as financially accessible as possible. No music experience is necessary and we will provide instruments to all campers.

Youth Leader InstitutE

Youth Leader Institute will be held July 10-July 20.

Applications are due May 30th!

The Youth Leader Institute (YLI) aims to equip girls, trans youth, and gender nonconforming youth ages 13-18 with the skills, support, and critical analysis necessary to lead a movement for radical and lasting change in South Carolina. YLI serves as a crash course in community organizing and political education related to our two campaigns: Safer Schools Without SROs and Sex Education Beyond Abstinence.

Youth leaders will be skilled up as facilitators and organizers. They’ll discuss critical issues within the scope of transformative justice and reproductive justice and learn about research, base building, campaign strategy, and communications work. YLI will prepare folks to get looped into our local campaign work and to launch their own unique campaigns across the state.

YLI orientation and training will take place at the CYAP Meeting Room (2105 Cosgrove Avenue in North Charleston). Volunteer Orientation and Camp will happen at Palmetto Scholars Academy (7499 Dorchester Road in North Charleston).

Youth leaders who attend all orientations, trainings, camp days, and the showcase will receive a $120 stipend during Saturday’s celebration dinner.
