Girls Rock Camp
Each summer, CYAP holds a one-week summer camp for girls and transgender youth, similar to camps around the world connected by the Girls Rock Camp Alliance.
Campers form bands and take instrument classes in guitar, bass, keyboards, or drums and participate in workshops that explore ways to use music and art to address social issues that impact our communities. At the end of camp week, bands perform original songs at a live showcase event in front of family, friends, and Charleston community members.
Full tuition for camp is $350, however we use a sliding scale system to make our program as financially accessible as possible. No music experience is necessary and Girls Rock will provide instruments to all campers.
Information about summer camp 2018 will be available in March
Teen Leader Program
Our summer camp Teen Leader program is open to girls and transgender youth who are of high school age (14-17).
Teen Leaders help organize camp week, lead workshops and lessons for other campers, and facilitate art-based activism projects for the showcase. Teen Leaders work in groups to design and facilitate their own workshop tracks about topics that are important to them and inform campers about real-world issues and actions affecting young people. In three Saturday meet-ups, Teen Leaders will meet with adult organizers to plan their workshop sessions, learn about facilitation, plan lessons and design their final projects. It is required that Teen Leaders attend these three pre-camp meetings.
Teen Leaders will also be able to take on other roles during camp, which might include instrument instruction, documentation, participating in assemblies, or emceeing our end-of-camp showcase.
