Our 2018 Rock Camp Showcase is Saturday July 28th!!!

Join us at the Charleston Music Hall on Saturday, July 28th for our 8th annual Rock Camp Showcase! This year’s lineup includes both new and returning campers forming 11 bands performing original music!

During out one-week summer camp program youth form bands, take instrument instruction in guitar, bass, drums, or keys, and participate in workshops that use music and art to explore social issues affecting campers and their communities. In addition, bands work together to write original music! At the end-of-camp Showcase, these camper bands - with enormous courage - stand in front of an audience of family, friends, and Charleston community members to perform their original songs live.

This summer we are launching our Youth Leader Institute (YLI) which aims to equip girls, trans youth, and gender nonconforming youth with the skills, support, and critical analysis necessary to lead a movement for radical and lasting change in South Carolina. Youth leaders will receive a crash course in community organizing that centers self-reflection, political education, facilitation, research, base building, and communications. YLI folks will also be developing their leadership by coordinating all rock camp assemblies, planning workshops, and building relationships with adult co-mentors to work towards a specific goal by the end of the institute. YLI will culminate with the launching of a long-term youth-led campaign at the camp showcase; community members will have the chance to become involved in campaign work starting in the fall!
